If there’s one thing that spells SEO success, it’s the willingness to put your business out there–and that’s exactly what Christian author and speaker Dawn Mann Sanders wanted to do.

Dawn approached me with the goal of getting more eyes on her website, her content, and her upcoming book release as someone who was already getting a generous amount of traffic from Google.

She had 100+ blog posts, some already ranking in #1 spots, and almost seven years of history with her website (meaning she’s been around long enough for Google to know who she is). But, she’d reached a plateau in her results and no longer had the time to figure out how to DIY it on her own.

After six months, she got exactly what she wanted: 6,440 new eyes on her business and a 380% growth in traffic from Google.

The Client: Who is Dawn Mann Sanders?

Dawn is a writer, Bible teacher, overachiever, overcome, chocolate/sweets enthusiast (me too, but I prefer spiced sweets), and Jesus follower. While her goal is (and was) to share and promote her book, “When Your World Ends: God’s Creative Process for Rebuilding a Life,” she also had long-term goals of presenting herself more as a speaker in the space vs. solely a writer.

Dawn found me while she was searching for ways to improve her SEO. Where she found my blog post about Christian websites and blogs accepting guest posts (which are one of the best ways to build backlinks when you’re on a time crunch) and reached out from there.

The Strategy: Optimizing Her Website and Content for SEO

After hopping on a call and learning all the things (why she reached out, what she wanted to do, all the good stuff), we got started with her SEO Audit + Optimization, where we comb through a website and check your SEO health, look at what’s working (and what’s not), look at competitors, backlinks, and opportunities, and create a content strategy. The optimization is when we head into your website and make changes—that was part two of our work together.

Her main pages needed a little boost in order to get the results she wanted; while she was already showing up whenever anyone Googled “Dawn Mann Sanders,” she wasn’t showing up for “Christian Speakers” or any of the topics her content, book, and speaking addressed.

Next, we moved into (and continue to do) monthly maintenance, where we optimize her upcoming blog posts and new pages and monitor her website health and performance to make adjustments as needed. We also went back and updated all of her old blog posts, optimizing them for keywords and submitting them for indexing on Google (all 100 of them).

The Results: How 6,000+ People Discovered Dawn Mann Sanders

Did you know that SEO is one of the best, most sustainable strategies for connecting with new leads, clients, and community members who are actively searching for you and the problems you solve? Yep! And that’s exactly what happened with Dawn.

Dawn took immediate action; she continued regularly publishing blog content (she’s a writer and felt more comfortable handling it herself, although I’m always here to take blogging off your hands, too, if you need it), continued collaborating with other authors and blogs (a great way to build backlinks and signal to Google that “hey, other people trust me, you should, too”), and we worked on optimizing her pages for the best-fit keywords in the background.

In just six months, she went from having 381 people discover her through Google in a month to having 1,960 people discover her website—and a 380% growth in the last six months when compared to the previous six months.

Thoughts From Dawn…

You know I wasn’t going to leave you without a few thoughts from Dawn! Of course, I had to ask her what she thought of her SEO results and growth; here’s what she said…

“McKayla of The Comma Mama Co has been supportive and professional in all our interactions. Her work has helped people find me, my products, and my services. Thanks to her, my reach and business are growing. After working with Mckayla, I’ve been able to reach more people with my message, and the best part of the experience was the speed at which the changes took place.”

Mom of three, lover of all things blogging, and borderline obsessive coffee drinker — I also just happen to love making complicated things simple and accessible, especially when it comes to SEO. The blog is a collection of what I've learned from years of testing, trial and error, and working with amazing clients with impactful businesses (just like yours). Blogging and SEO doesn't have to be boring — and it definitely doesn't need to be difficult.
