If there’s one thing you can do as a low-energy entrepreneur to improve your SEO, it’s guest blogging—aka publishing a guest blog post on someone else’s website, often in exchange for a backlink to your website, a paid offer, or a lead magnet.
While the exact requirements and expectations vary based on WHERE you’re publishing a guest post, the general idea remains the same: you write the content, they publish it on their site.
But, how does that translate into something for “low-energy” entrepreneurs (or as I’ve lovingly dubbed, my lazy girls in SEO), and why do you need to guest blog for SEO?
Guest blogging, as we’ve already covered, is when you publish a blog post on someone else’s website. But you might not know that this backlink you’ve earned (or created) will let you “borrow” trust from the website.
Think of it this way: when you get a recommendation to buy something, you’re more likely to buy it, be it a specific brand or item. The same goes for Google; when their friend (a website they already trust) links to you (“recommends” you), it gives you a little more trust and gives you a better chance of ranking for your keyword wishlist.
I explain it so much better in this video:
TL;DR Guest blogging is one of the best ways to improve your SEO without having the commitment or consistency that other SEO strategies need to get results.
The first thing you need to do is find the right website to PITCH your guest post. There’s no point in writing one until you’ve secured a place to publish it (at least, if you’re not trying to kill more time).
Remember, quality over quantity. You want to pitch a website that is aligned with and active among your target audience—sometimes that’s smaller sites, and other times it’s large publications. Do your research.
