Let’s talk about launch day, or just any day that you’re really looking to jump-start your blog traffic: you’ve gotta work – and I mean WORK for it.
Ideally, you’re at the point where you’re approximately 3 to 4 weeks prior to launching a your blog. You may or may not have socials already set up, but you already have your niche and blog title picked! Why?
Because you’ll need it for the next steps of course!
This is the golden hour of your marketing, and we’ve got to use it wisely… Now worries though, I’ve got the perfect plan for you that will skyrocket your blog views in those first valuable hours.
You’re in the right era to start (or have) a blog! There are so many marketing opportunities that it’s not even funny. But, we’re not really here to get into all these opportunities, we’re here to talk about a specific recipe for success.
If you’re just looking for marketing opportunities, check out The Easy Guide to Free Marketing as a Blogger.
To succeed in our task, we’re going to go in-depth, right down to the nitty-gritty, down to the bottom of our souls (okay, a little too much). Still, just follow me and we’ll be set for take-off!
YOU DO NOT, I REPEAT, YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE AN ACTIVE BLOG TO START ADVERTISING ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
How many people have an Instagram or Facebook account in this world? Way too many to count. And how many of these people have blogs?
Your first step in marketing your blog and setting yourself up for success is creating social media pages that advertise your upcoming release on the sly – all the while building connections with your target audience!
The socials I recommended: Instagram + Pinterest.
I had @thatmamamckayla wayyyy before I started @commamama.co – all so I could start getting other bloggers interested in my content BEFORE it released. Meaning, I basically had an audience that already trusted me as a person that would now trust my content too.
What did I post? Just the usual tips + tricks and life updates until I created my official account about 2 weeks before launch. Then, I started driving traffic in that direction of those who were truly interested.
Technically speaking, I don’t like to refer to Pinterest as a ‘social media’ it’s really more of a search engine. Pinterest runs off of keywords, and you should go ahead and start claiming your spot for yours.
If you can, go ahead and claim your website on your Pinterest account and start pinning related content to some targeted boards. Not only will you get a look at your future community – but you’ll start building trust with the platform.
Pinterest is GOING TO BE KEY in driving your future traffic, so don’t leave this one out.
*If you’re looking for a little bit of Pinterest help, She’s Blogging covers it in the step-by-step road-map offered to members.
Again, a blog is NOT REQUIRED to join most blogging groups. 90% of blogging based groups allow future bloggers to join and participate.
You can use this to your advantage!
How, you ask?
Well, I’ll tell you! Blogger groups typically allow you to introduce yourself. Use that opportunity on the day you officially release your blog! Not only will it grab a little attention, but you’ll already have a fan-base (of sorts) that’s interested in how your blog turned out!
You can also start building connections with other bloggers by commenting on their posts, connecting on socials, and just chatting about ‘bloggery things’.
You’re not going to believe this, but you can have an email list prior to launch. All you need is an email subscription service (I recommend Flodesk) and a nice freebie.
Easiest freebie? A checklist! Checklists are perfect for any audience and can be used in EVERY niche! Fashion, motherhood, travel, etc. – a checklist will fit them all!
After creating your freebie and setting up your landing page + workflow in your email subscription service, it’s time to show it off!
Remember those groups? They’re the perfect place to offer your freebie. Some offer threads or allow you to offer it on the main wall (without posting the direct link).
A week or two later and you’ve got a email list primed for the official launch of your blog!
*Psst… If you need help making your checklist, you can use my free checklist template in Canva I made specifically to help jump-start your blog traffic.
This one isn’t for everyone, myself included. Going live on launch day can be crucial for generating traffic, the only issue is if you’re comfortable on camera or totally awkward, like me.
If you’re awkward, we can get creative. Use your stories on Insta or get a few blogger friends to hype up your launch.
If you’re ready for the challenge, or a natural on camera, you’ve got an amazing resource at your fingertips. Go live a couple times before launch with helpful information for your niche. Then, hype up you launch day live beforehand (maybe offer a special freebie for viewers only).
You’ll get viewers that are attracted to not just your info, but also your personality!
It may or may not increase your day one traffic, but it will absolutely help with your authority in Google before you start getting all this traffic.
Connecting your website to Google analytics will allow Google to start ‘crawling’ and indexing your site pages. This develops trust and allows you to start competing for keyword rankings.
Best part, this is probably the least time consuming part.
